Have you ever thought about abstaining from alcohol for 30 days?

Forget about the start of new months. You can start at any time — you can even start right now if you want.

Does the idea make you apprehensive? Even afraid? It’s the fear of failure. A very normal fear. It just sounds too hard.

I know. Once upon a time I felt this.

The main obstacle to succeeding is your own mind. Read that again — it is your own mind and therefore you can choose how you use it. If you choose, to, you can approach this idea with excitement and motivation. Try it!

If you have been drinking for a long time, like I was (over 20 years) this could be a great opportunity to explore a test of self-awareness. Commit to writing down each day how you feel. Write down everything, but write down only as much as is comfortable. Write down your fears, worries and concerns. Write down experiences of excitement and positive feelings that arise. They will happen, too.

Write down how hard and how easy it was. You will have both experiences. Aim to write one day at a time, 30 times.

There are going to be upcoming events that will persuade you to wait just a little bit longer. Like meetings with friends or a planned vacation. These…
